Angry demonstration erupted outside Bagram Air Base and one of Kabul districts after news leaked out, likely by Afghans working at the Bagram Air Base that US troops had burned copies of Koran. The commander of the NATO forces, American General John Allen apologized and promised to investigate the incident. Bellow is a cut-and-past of Allen's statement: Commander ISAF Makes Statement Kabul, Afghanistan (Feb. 21, 2012) -- General John R. Allen, commander of the International Security Assistance Force, today issued the following statement: To the noble people of Afghanistan - I have ordered an investigation into a report I received during the night that ISAF personnel at Bagram Airbase improperly disposed of a large number of Islamic religious materials which included Korans. When we learned of these actions, we immediately intervened and stopped them. The materials recovered will be properly handled by appropriate religious authorities.
